Another One Bites The Dust!

When I decided to take on the role of becoming a designer. I was heavily attracted to being able to express my ideas and thoughts. Once I was given the brief, I then had scope to create anything I wanted. Plus having the ability to create whatever flowed from my mind. These days I find it very hard to comprehend how people are relying heavily on other peoples work, in order to create a successful design.

Now I’m all for using something as inspiration in order to kick in those brain juice’s into action. But to actually “bite” another designers work… is beyond me. I find it hard to understand why someone would do that, and if you need to do that, then surely you are in the wrong industry. Designing is all about creation, bringing something fresh to the table. It saddens me to think that some people need to ‘bite’ in order to maintain a design style, they are unable to achieve on their own.

I also can’t understand why professional designers use templates. Why on earth would a ‘professional’ designer underestimate themselves, to warrant the need to use a template. Unless they lack the skills to accomplish that design, and if that’s the case, then get the correct education or quit!. Templates are for people who are unable to create a design, but need something to look good. Professional designers should be able to do all the skills involved in the template, as its what the customers are paying for (or not paying if your a freebie designer).

To me, designing is a way of expression, you create a piece of art thats original, warming, stands out, hits the right buttons, and it can hold its own. It’s a shame other people don’t look at it that way!
